Your story matters

Virtual show of hands, please! Who out there, in beautiful KOM Land, doesn’t really believe that their story matters?

That’s what I thought. I’m betting most of you lovelies raised a hand.

Why is that? Why do we believe our stories don’t matter? Are we taught it when we’re told that children are to be seen and not heard? Do we internalize it when we watch TV or read about people who are more famous or successful that we are?

Honestly, I have no idea. And you know what? I don’t care!

I want to tell every, single one of you that your story DOES matter. It matters to me and this community, and I’m willing to bet it matters to a whole lot more people, too.

Just look at our amazingly brave story teller from Saturday’s Dear KOM. You wouldn’t tell her that her story doesn’t matter, would you? I know you wouldn’t. So, don’t tell yourself that, either!

But, Lara, I’m just an ordinary person. There’s nothing special about me.

I believe that there is something special about every being. There will NEVER be another you. What could be more special than that?

Here’s my challenge to all of you, and to myself as well: Let’s go into the week with that fact in mind. Let’s believe that our stories matter, because we matter. Every, single one of us.

If you’d like to share your story, I’d love to hear from you at Dear KOM.

You matter.

?, Lara
