Your future self

What a way to start a Monday – we’re contemplating our future selves?! Really? Yup! We sure are.

But Lara, I’m trying to just be in the moment, and love what is, and I hear you talking about that, too. What gives?

What if the thing we could do today (that our future self would love us for), IS just that – to be in the moment and love what is?

Being present in this moment is something my future self will thank me for. Allow me to explain…

I was just on a trip with some of the people I love most in the world. Before I left, I decided to completely check out of email while I was away, and that my only interaction with technology would be to keep up with #365DaysofKind. Now, for those of you who don’t know me, I live in my email. I check it all the time – work email, KOM email, personal email – you name it, I’m on top of it. I’ve always maintained that staying on top of it, even while on vacation, makes me feel better when I get back, but something about that just didn’t ring true this time.

So, I did it. No email for the whole trip.

You know what? It was wonderful! It was a little unnerving at first, but by the time we got home, I felt free. Checking email felt like an option, not a necessity, and believe me when I tell you, that’s a BIG shift for me!

The moral of the story is, I’m thanking myself for that decision. I did something a couple of weeks ago that I’m thanking myself for today. I decided to be present. To be in the moment. To love what is, and to really immerse myself in an incredible experience…and I’m so grateful I did.

I’d love to hear about some things you’re doing today that your future self will thank you for! Comment here or email Dear KOM to share.

?, Lara
