Why Resisting Change is a Bad Idea

Ever since you set foot on this earth, you’ve gone through countless changes in your physical body and mind. Whether you wanted that change or not, you had to go through it because that’s how nature has designed us and everything around us.

Even after knowing this very basic rule of life, some people resist change. They feel they can stop how things function. Guess what? They can’t; no one can. It is a human tendency to stay in a comfortable space for our entire lives. When we’re young, we love spending time outdoors, playing with friends and doing silly fun activities. Childhood is the best thing and we never want to enter adulthood; however, it is a process that no one can run away from.

A good way to know the importance of change is by considering the example of a mobile phone company. Nokia was a leader in manufacturing mobile phones and they stayed at the top for a very long time until the first smartphone was launched. Nokia thought smartphones were a fad and would go away within some months. Their overconfidence and resistance to change dropped them to the bottom of the mobile phone industry. They suffered major losses and finally after many years decided to enter the game again by manufacturing smartphones that competed with other companies. It helped them become a significant company again but they haven’t been able to achieve the success they once had.

Every one of us has tried resisting change at some point in our lives; sometimes regularly after facing negative consequences because of this rigid mindset. Deep down, we all know that true happiness and inner peace can only be achieved when we let go.

Letting go is not as easy as you may think because we’re so used to living in a default mode. We don’t know anything other than this. Humans run away from things or situations that seem unfamiliar. We love staying in our comfort zone, but doing it is the reason most of us are unhappy.

You have to learn to embrace change. That’s the only way you’ll grow in life and find your true purpose. When you learn to let go and start thinking of change as a part of life, you’ll realize that most of your stress and worries will go away.
