What should I eat

I am often asked…”What should I eat?” And “What should I not eat?”

And here is my answer: “How do you feel when you eat X, Y or Z?”

I wish I could answer that question for you. I wish it were as simple as me telling you to eat a cup of blueberries every day and your weight woes will be over. However, here is the real deal. Your body is different than mine and different than your significant other’s. This brings us back to awareness. Awareness always trumps the latest and greatest diet and workout. If you are aware that when you eat, let’s say fruits and veggies, you feel energized and clean, you should eat more of them. When you are aware that when you eat a lot of white bread, you feel like white bread, all soft and doughy and then tired…you become clearer on what you need to eat.

Be a little kid and play with your food. Is it pleasing to look at? How does it REALLY taste? I went through my entire life thinking I hated peppers and onions. Now, I love them. My tastes changed and yours will too throughout your life. Don’t rule something out because you despised it 10 years ago. Be open, try new things. Be open to your emotions. I lean towards salty fried things when I want to zone out. I know (when I’m being really honest) that these will make me sleepy and be a really good excuse to not do anything. I also know that when I eat good, whole, real food that I will have energy and be happy. Truly, how do you want to live your life? How do you want to feel? How does the food you eat line up with those questions? They’re not always easy answers, but taking the time with them will organically change your relationship with food. I would love to hear your thoughts as you go through this process.

To healthy and happy,
Lynn
