What is Christmas?

Since I was very young, Christmas was something special for us.

My youngest memory is hearing mum talk to Santa over the phone to cover the sounds of wrapping our Christmas gifts.

My favorite Christmas present: a shiny new bike with basket that sported tassels and a bright pink flower.

I loved Christmas growing up, a full house with a long table filled with extended family and lots of noise, food and presents galore.

So I always worked hard to give my kids an amazing Christmas.

This year is going to be a little tough. I am handing the Christmas light to my family of three – Graham, Hayley and Jamie.

This year I will be in hospital on the 23rd of December having a procedure done. This was the only time I could get it in with two jobs, two kids, a house and all the rest. And let me tell you this is the hardest thing I have ever done. Not because I don’t trust them but because I feel like I am not providing for my little family.

So let me go back to the start of this…where the penny drops…and I realize how hard it was for my Mum and Dad – that feeling of not being able to provide. I wonder how many people will be feeling like this at this time of the year. Let me publicly say thank you right here and now to my Mum and Dad for all those moments when they didn’t have but they gave. And say sorry for all the times I expected without realizing how hard it was for you.

So here is what I think, the word according to the crazy red haired lady. Let’s have a Christmas season minus the feeling of not being able to provide and concentrate on what we can provide: Love, Friendship, Warmth and Peace.

Graham, Hayley and Jamie…here is the Christmas light this year. The only thing I will say is create magic out of making, not buying.

Seasons Blessings to all of you.
Namaste til next time
