What does it mean to be successful?

Success – that word we all seem to strive for as humans.

I found myself pondering this today and how we measure success.

Is success having a bank balance with millions of dollars in it? Then clearly I am not successful. The last couple of months have been about maneuvering money from one place to another. I think here success is…I paid all my bills and saved hard for a holiday. My car…gets me from A to B and sometimes even C. It will get to C because I paid for it to get fixed. 🙂 There were times when I felt sick at how we were going to meet the bills, but the universe provided and I was grateful every time it did.

Is success having a multitude of friends? Hmmm. I have “culled” them over the last couple of years. Not to be nasty, but I have kept people around me that are good for me, that enable me and accept me, that love my children like they are their own. We laugh together and they love me for my fiery nature and crazy hair.

So here is what I have come to think success is.

My business, although just breaking even, brings happiness to so many. I would hope it gives people an outlet to be creative and enables people to stop for a while and enjoy life through music.

My marriage and life partnership of nearly 30 years is successful. This success has come because we both work at it, we both compromise, but at the end of the day we both have the same value base in life. I love that about Graham.

My family is successful, but not how you think. For me success in parenting has been about seeing 2 children who are fueled with passion and integrity. They both seek justice on smaller and more complex scales. I love these 2 so much; they have made me a better person – a more successful person.

So I guess the question is: “Am I successful”……………….Hell yeah!

Namaste my lovelies.
