Too soon

Post by Lynn DeVasto for the Kind Kindred series.

This weekend, a friend of mine lost her life to breast cancer. She was 44 years old. She left behind her mother, her brother and her husband, along with many, many friends and a vision board second to none.

She was healthy. She was young. She didn’t have the time or money for a mammogram. So sad for so many reasons: it could have been caught before stage 4, she was so young, her career was just beginning to take off, she had just moved to Sedona to live her life. Instead it ended so sadly.

As I write this with a heavy heart, please encourage your friends, family and even acquaintances to have their annual exams. Not just mammograms, but the whole shebang. Get your Pap smear, your colonoscopy, get to the dentist (gingivitis is linked to heart disease), make your partner do the same.

More than any of that, Shaun was an incredible and beautiful woman, filled with love and spirituality. She lived her life to the fullest, savoring each day and each person in her life. To meet her was akin to running into a long lost friend. May we all have some of that in us, may we all have a friend like that, and may we all live our life with that much peace and love.

To healthy and happy,
