The Waiting is the Hardest Part

The Waiting is the Hardest Part

You’ve done it. You’ve birthed a new offering for your business. The concept came to you in a whoosh of inspiration. You can feel the vibe of it. It’s bright and wonderful and you just know your client base is going to love it. You announce it. In a perfect world everyone would sign-up, purchase or opt-in within 5 minutes of getting your email, tweet or Facebook update. But that’s not the way it works. So you wait. And then you wait some more…

Perhaps a few days go by and no one has opted-in yet. It’s quiet, too quiet. A few days ago you were filled with unbridled optimism, now you’re feeling a bit anxious and concerned. Maybe you were wrong? Maybe you should get a “real” job. Maybe this path isn’t for you after all…

If you are a solo entrepreneur, you’ve likely been through an experience like this.

Welcome to the “gap of creation” as Abraham-Hicks calls it or the state of “no-thingness” as represented in the Osho Zen Tarot. This is the place between worlds. It is the pause of incubation before something new is born.

The Osho Zen Tarot says of the state of no-thingness: “Being “in the gap” can be disorienting and even scary. Nothing to hold on to, no sense of direction, not even a hint of what choices and possibilities might lie ahead. But it was just this state of pure potential that existed before the universe was created.”

I’m guided to write about this because it’s something so many of us go through but we don’t really talk about. It’s an uncomfortable sticky place that can be filled with expectation and possibilities. I will admit, the waiting in the wide open expanse of what-may-be is not always easy for me. Especially when I have a strong attachment to the outcome. I ache for some kind of movement to take place, but often there is no more action I can take to move things forward. I’ve done my part and now I have to be patient while the molecules of creation do their thing.

Over the years I’ve assembled some morsels of wisdom for taking care of yourself while you are waiting. I hope you find them helpful as you are birthing your wonderful creations into the world.

· Each day send love and light to your client base. Include them in your prayers and send the stream of goodness to clients past, present and future. Then allow yourself to feel the wave of goodness making its way to you, too.

· Remember, you are co-creating with the Universe. Do what you can and then let it go. Get out in nature, meet a friend for coffee or read a good book. Checking your email or social media every 15 minutes isn’t going to make people opt-in. Seed your energy and ideas into the world and then allow them to take root.

· Even if no one opts-in, it doesn’t mean your product isn’t on-purpose. Sometimes people need to see an offering multiple times before they’re ready to jump in. There have been several times that I’ve offered a class and no one has signed up. Yet when I offer it again a few months later, people register.

· Create space for your process. Write in your journal. Meditate. Pray. Talk with your coach or mentor. It can feel vulnerable to send an offering into the world and then wait to see how it is received. Find a self-honoring way to move through your feelings.

· Please, don’t take your ball and go home. The world needs your gifts. You have unique offerings, wisdom, creativity, love and kindness to share with others. It may take time for people to find you. Give them that opportunity. You can never know when critical mass will be achieved – but hang in there. You may just be getting to the really good part.

· Acknowledge and celebrate yourself for putting your heartfelt dreams out into the world. You are courageous and there are wonderful adventures here for you.

Remember, beautiful friend, you are doing this work because you are answering a calling. You love what you do and you want to share this love with others. Somehow, somewhere there is a gorgeous path that will be illuminated for you as you move forward. Allow for the incubation. There is much goodness here for you.
