The rise of the divine feminine

There’s some really scary stuff going on in the world. I suspect that’s always the case. But it seems like there is a backlash currently going on against the progress that we’ve made toward equality and justice over the past few decades.

This progress is a natural evolution of our human consciousness: getting rid of discrimination and hate crimes, encouraging personal freedom, and treating all people with respect no matter their skin color, gender, age, class, place of birth, religion, or sexual orientation.

But not everyone sees this as positive progress. There is a backlash going on that is firmly based in fear. In many cases, this fear is closely tied to patriarchal religions and traditions. These groups are the descendants of the old tribal-based religions in which men were in charge of women and children, and being different or not conforming was seen as a sign of sin or evil. The Divine is seen as male. There isn’t much room for kindness there, unless you happen to conform to a very specific set of rules and be born in the “right” place to the “right” family.

Those who are part of the backlash want to take away the reproductive (and other) rights of half the population (women), restrict human beings (who are often in desperate need) from immigrating, and stop feeding the hungry. In a global society, that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

You might think that I’m advocating for a purely science and technology based society instead of one based on outdated religious standards, but that can be just as problematic. The unrelenting pursuit of new technology and the consumer society that goes along with it have contributed to many of our environmental problems. Sure, science will most likely help us to solve some of the very problems it created. And I admire the way society is set up in the world of Star Trek: The Next Generation – but we’re just not there yet.

In any case, I think a worldview based on logic alone would only give us half the story. What about creativity? Wonder? The Mysteries? The magic? The inspiration? The power of intuition? What about love and compassion and cooperation? Deep inside, we each have a longing for something more than what we see before us. We are hearing the call of a part of our psyche that may have been suppressed or hidden for long years.

At the same time as the progress and the backlash, there is a quieter transformation going on across the globe. As traditional religions decline (in numbers, if not passion), a movement of individuals and groups are exploring their personal spirituality, their direct connection to the vast Universe and the mysteries that it encompasses.

The rise in popularity of yoga, meditation and mindfulness, alternative healing, herbalism, local and organic food, EFT, heart-centered teachings, and earth-based spirituality is an indication that a major shift in consciousness is underway.

This shift brings into the forefront qualities often associated with the feminine, such as intuition, nurturing, self-care, creativity, kindness, collaboration, and unconditional love. Many people are now discovering and honoring this side of themselves, what we might call the Divine Feminine.

This rise of the Divine Feminine in our modern culture is a return to recognizing that the Divine, or that which makes up all that we see and beyond, encompasses all dualities. By recognizing our feminine and masculine aspects and bringing them into harmony within ourselves, we are becoming whole. As we discover our wholeness, we can see how we are all made of the same energy. We are less fearful of that which is different, and more accepting of our shared humanity.

We learn to see that we’re all in this together, and that cooperation is the way to go.

When you allow your Divine Feminine aspects to arise from within, you acknowledge that your life experience is not only about the head, but also the heart. When you open yourself to this new awareness, you realize that fear doesn’t need to be in the driver’s seat. You can make decisions based on the love that comprises all things.

When you base your creations and your sacred work on love, amazing, world-changing things become possible. You ride on the waves of the ocean of love that in truth surrounds you all of the lifetimes you live. You were brought here on that very surf, riding the waves into your birth in a physical body.

Now you are preparing to birth this new culture, this heart-centered way that is calling to you and so many others. This work must begin from within, for where else could it originate, other than the deepest corners of your sacred heart? When you commit to this calling, you access vast currents of energy. You are connecting beyond your narrow human viewpoint and into the vast creativity of the cosmos itself. When you ground yourself in this space of love, growth, creativity, and joy, your creations will gleam like a shining jewel and will call in others who wish to co-create this sacred new society.

The rise of the Divine Feminine brings us together in love and wholeness. Together, we can revitalize our societies and live with respect for one another and the Earth we share. Are you ready?
