Taking Action

“The ruling is Roe, but the crisis is democracy.” -Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

I love people who have had an abortion and I’m so incredibly proud of them.

The injustice toward women that happened on June 24th is just the start. When Restorative nostalgia (an effort to revive the past – but without acknowledging that the desired and idealized past never existed, therefore it cannot be restored, either) means further marginalizing those in the country who have never enjoyed liberty and justice for all, kindness means taking action.

Here are some ways to start:

Sometimes action looks like purchasing Plan B to have on hand, talking to women of reproductive ability in states who have already banned abortion, knowing where abortion will still remain legal, offering transport, housing, and emotional support. Action also looks like voting in November, phone banking, supporting candidates financially or with yard signs, volunteering at or helping those close to you get to the polls.

Speak out, because this is just the beginning.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me. -Martin Niemöller
