Surrender, Pleasure and Receiving

“Pleasure and surrender are really entwined with one another.”

It was as if I’d just dropped the mic. The room got really quiet for a moment. My friend Michelle let out an adorable little howl – the one she does, imitating our coach’s dog, when the truth gets a bit too real and raw. It was as if I’d caused a ripple in the force.

We were near the end of day two of the quarterly retreat that my awesome biz coach hosts; and this group of fifteen heart-centered entrepreneurs had been diving deep, holding space for pleasure in the work we do.

Pleasure is a challenging concept, particularly for women. We’d already had to drill down through some shadows to find the notion that we were innately deserving of enjoying and relishing our work and play.

“Pleasure and surrender are really entwined with one another.”

Taking it to the next level, where instead of the pursuit of happiness, the best way to find it was to let go? It made me want to howl, too.

After the retreat, as the weeks passed, I noticed that some of my biz sisters were exploring the connection between surrender and receiving, and that got me thinking.

As a mainstream society, we are all about that pursuit. Even here in the spiritual side-channels, we set our intentions and goals, then move toward them. We want to be in control.

But as you might have noticed, we’re not.

Unexpected things happen in life, often seemingly randomly, despite what we’re trying to achieve. We do our best to make it happen but most of the time the path to our dreams is less than direct.

What if, instead of fighting the flow, we surrendered to it?

The idea of letting go can be scary. Most of us have experienced times when we surrendered to another human being and it didn’t go well. That’s not what I’m talking about here, though.

Rather than giving up your power, surrendering to the flow is about enhancing it. It’s about going with the tides of energy.

Surrender doesn’t mean giving up on your big dreams. It’s more about allowing them to unfold in your life.

The dance between surrender, pleasure and receiving is like a tango. You choose to partner with the Universe – and the Universe really knows her stuff. Dancing with her is a delight. Take pleasure in the way you move together across the dance floor. As you lean into her guidance you’ll discover that you’re receiving – not only pleasure, but more.

She’s dancing you closer to your dreams and aspirations, almost effortlessly. Sure, you still need to do the dance steps, keeping up your side of the tango. But when you surrender to the guidance of the Universe life becomes easier. More fun. More fulfilling.

It requires a big dose of trust with a dash of courage. But just listen – the music is starting. This is your invitation to the dance.

“Pleasure and surrender are really entwined with one another.”

Are you willing to surrender, to receive, to experience the pleasure of the life you’ve been dreaming of for many moons? The Universe is reaching out her starry hand. Will you take it?
