Sometimes Parenting can be a tough gig

This year I embarked on a career change. I took a job teaching at the same school that my son attends.

Over the years, I have always told stories of my kids in my classes to illustrate points; but mainly because I was so proud of them.

Recently, I didn’t think twice about doing the same kind of thing. I had forgotten that there was a line I shouldn’t have crossed with both of us on the same campus. Well, I crossed it. Today my son was very unhappy with me.

It is an awful feeling when you as the parent are in trouble with the child. It made me think back to all those times my kids were in trouble with me and consequently what I said to them.

That feeling that I had let him down, that I had disappointed him is something I guess they feel when the tables are turned.

I will always maintain that this parenting gig is by far the hardest thing I have ever, ever had to do. But today I got a little taste of what it was like to be the child. Maybe if we all looked through their eyes every once in a while parenting might be a little easier.

Just a thought!

Till next time.
