Words for Wednesday : Morning Poem

morning poem #1 | Amanda Oaks

turning thoughts
over in my mind,
much like the
diapers still warm
from the dryer, sitting
cross-legged on the
floor, arranging them in
piles, the extra pounds
sitting on me like a
thick-yarned cardigan,
tea cooling on the
counter, baby sleeping
softly in the other
room

from the window
i watch the clouds flock,
all shapeless
to quilt the sky

i find peace in
the sagging stitches
where the blue
pokes through

underneath
we keep on

in awe
that we are
anything
at all
