Relationship Advice Rule to Break: Don’t Watch TV

Generally speaking, typical relationship advice doesn’t work for me. This advice, and variations thereof, is no exception. After 12 years with True Love, as silly as it may sound, we’ve carved out our own secret language based on quotes from our favorite TV shows, favorite movies and funny commercials.

He started wooing me by telling me that nothing so far in his life had been a surprise, until me. Then he told me I had to watch Open Range. I told him he had to watch the movie Red because he reminded me of Frank Moses.

I binge watched NCIS so I could memorize all of Gibbs’ rules. He binge watched Big Bang Theory so he could understand Bazinga.

Sometimes in every relationship, life is just too heavy. Just take work. There are days where it’s so hard it takes almost everything out of you. I’ve definitely come home from a hard day with nothing good to say. Certainly I don’t have any relationship bonding in me on days like that. TL knows when he gets that type of phone call on my way home…put on anything with Samuel L. Jackson in it and we’ll be laughing our heads off soon. Then I can talk through my day with a little more distance and clarity.

Life is so serious at times. It’s so filled with the “what ifs” that one of our favorite things is that one of us will “try” to figure out how the Hallmark Christmas movies will turn out and then the other acts completely shocked when that exact thing happens. From Hallmark movies to Hitman’s Bodyguard, it doesn’t seem to matter. What matters is that we are in it together.

Currently, after watching the Marvel movies in a hodgepodge style, we decided to watch them through in release order. I think there are currently 36 of them, so I’ll report back in about six months!

Silly? Yes! Pointless? I don’t think so. If it were, I wouldn’t have my current favorite quote by Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is “I love you in every Universe.
