Ready to Change Your Life?

One Simple Practice Allows Love to Reign Over You

It hit me like a ton of bricks (but in a good way) the other day while driving in my car as one of my favorite “Who” songs came on…I have been letting love control me.

Let me start at the beginning. Several years ago, I was searching for a partner. Maybe searching isn’t the right word…yeah…more like begging, pleading, demanding that the Universe send me my Soul Mate.

If you have ever co-created with the Universe, you probably realize that begging, pleading and demanding don’t usually work. One of the practices I did do was to sing The Who’s “Love Reign O’er Me” every time I was in my car.

I consider it a prayer and a call to action for myself and the Universe. I started to notice where I wasn’t allowing love to reign (prevail, sway, rule). I also began noticing where I was not even allowing love into my life, my heart and my world.

So I began a practice of allowing love to reign over me.

We so often hear how we say “yes” to situations and people when we really want to say “no.” Saying no is a brilliant way to help yourself set boundaries and respect and love yourself more. The flip side is how often we say no to ourselves. No, I can’t have that. No, I’m not good enough to do that.

I began saying yes to myself. Yes, I can do and be that. Yes, I can have my nails done in the middle of the day. Yes, let’s take the day off, stay home and read a book.

Saying yes allowed me to be generous with myself. It allowed the Universe to be generous with me, and to shower me with experiences of generosity and love.

I stopped seeking and searching for myself in books and classes. (Don’t get me wrong, I still read and take classes but now it is for expansion – not to “find” myself) I allowed the Jennifer I was in my living room to be seen in public. That Jennifer sings at the top of her voice, dances around and is funny. I allowed my essential nature to be seen and heard. Often we hide ourselves away because we are afraid of rejection. When we are in love, it tends to spill over into everything we are and do. When we are allowing the consciousness of love to be our internal guide on everything, there is no need to hide.

We all have those stories in our heads around heartbreak. Heartbreak stories make us boring. Pain isn’t very personal (it just feels like it). What is unique is our connection to our higher power and ourselves. What is unique and special is what we are and do when love is holding the reins (“reign” pun intended).  I began shifting my pain and stories around love. It wasn’t painful, it wasn’t for the weak and it wasn’t going to save me.

Divine Love (and if you haven’t figured it out, that’s what we are talking about) is never ending, without conditions, an unlimited power source and allows you to live a deep fulfilling life of joy. This state of consciousness isn’t about rainbows and hearts, it is about courage and commitment. Courage and commitment to keep tuning in and choosing to feel deeply supported even when the chips are down.

When I had the moment of realizing that I was allowing love to truly reign over me, it wasn’t because I found my Soul Mate (which I did, by the way) or because I was experiencing more abundance than ever before (which was happening as well). It was because all those things didn’t matter. What mattered was that I was experiencing the joy of just being me and had been for a very long time.
