MY PANTONE COLOR OF THE YEAR IS DIVERSITY

today,
there were rainbows
in the snow,
like hundreds and thousands
atop vanilla ice cream,
the boring white
blankets more interesting
with sparkles in all colors.

recently,
i read an article
that said the world is losing
color
but i’m not

worried
for everyone i know
is rejecting
cloud dancer in favor
of mother earth green,
magenta, or teal.

when the world
appears all vicious
teeth and jagged bones
don’t lose hope

for rainbows
glitter under the light
of the sun.

there are those using violence –
an attempt to whitewash
the world.
we just sing

louder and flash
our flamingo feathers —
our zebra stripes.

in response to threats
we share
our food and our whistles,
sacred dances and protest songs.

together,
our collective joy
and community

kindness
melts the snow

and we knit
our rainbow blanket.
