Making it work

There’s a lot to be said for goals and I’m a big fan. However, there’s life, which seems to step in and add all sorts of cluster-bleeps to our goals. To be single-minded in this world is tough, there are so many distractions, some even legitimate. How many times have you said “I’m going to lose 5 pounds this month”? Or, “I’m going to work out 5 days this week”. Both goals are do-able, but here’s what happens: life, work, kids, exhaustion, your significant other wants to spend what little time you have together.

I’m not a hard core type of person, but I shared recently that I was going hard core back into self care and fitness. Why? Because I had let life slip into my fitness and eating. Because I had spent too many nights sitting on the sofa pondering how to fix everybody else’s life. But there comes a time – a time when you’re ready. For me, this has meant Bikram Yoga. Hot, hot yoga for 90 minutes, this is my answer (right now). For 90 minutes, I think about NOTHING else but my body and how damn hot it is. This is a good 3 hours out of my day, but I juggle it in and I find the time. That being said, I am in a place where I can do that, and I know that not everybody is in that same place. When I had originally lost my weight and was working full time in an office, I had to get up at 5:00 to work out. I did it because I was ready and I made it work. I did it because it was my main focus. Take on one goal at a time, two max. Focus, focus, focus. Be ready. Don’t take on things that you’re not ready for because you feel that you should.

This IS your life. Decide what it looks like; work hard to make it so. Know that things and life and people and problems will come up. I discovered long ago that when I am determined, 20 things promptly go wrong to get me off track. But you are smart…and I know you can figure it out. I have faith in you and know you can do it!

To healthy and happy,
Lynn
