Life can be a whirlwind of craziness, busy moments and fast paced action. But… it doesn’t have to be like that. Taking the time to stop and breathe and be present in the moment can have a positive impact on life.
By consciously choosing to slow down and be present not only makes life feel so much calmer but it also has a pivotal impact on your health and wellness. You have the power to change your whole line of thinking; but of course like anything, it takes practice.
“Your mind is like a garden, if you do not deliberately plant flowers and tend to them carefully, weeds will grow without any encouragement at all.” – unknown
Three months after the birth of my third child, my children’s father spoke the most hurtful words I could hear: “I don’t love you anymore.” My whole world felt like it came crashing down. I had my time to weep and to be sad but this wasn’t me. I knew I had the choice of two things – I could sit and feel sorry for myself or I could go out and make it my best life yet. I chose the second option, not just for me but also my three beautiful children. It was time for me to slow down and appreciate the beauty life has to offer.
A few months after the break up and the sun began to shine once again, I decided I knew what my life’s purpose was – to encourage other women to reach their happiness through health and wellness coaching. I studied at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. It not only helped me find myself again but I also discovered what I was here to do.
I did a lot of work on myself and worked closely with my beautiful yoga/spiritual teacher who helped me work through and rid myself of past emotions that had been bottled up for years. I was slowly finding my true self who had been lost for many years. To be able to truly find myself once again, I decided to lose myself in the service of others. So I decided to start doing random acts of kindness – to make someone else’s day brighter, to bring a rainbow to their storm and let them know that they are special and loved (even if it is by a complete stranger). The feeling you get from seeing someone’s face light up cannot be described, and knowing in your soul you did something to make someone else’s day a little brighter is so fulfilling and rewarding. That is why I decided to get a local “Be Kind” movement happening. I started taking part in random acts of kindness. I also had some lovely “Blessed with Kindness” cards made and give them away for free so others can take part in paying it forward.
Blessing someone with kindness doesn’t have to be big or hard.
Following are some ways in which you can help make the world a brighter place:
– Pay for the coffee for the person next in line
– Buy flowers for a work colleague and leave them on their desk
– Bake some yummy treats for a neighbor and leave them on the doorstep
– Compliment a stranger
– Post a love letter/appreciation letter to someone you love (but don’t write your name)
– Pay for someone’s petrol/gas
The list goes on and on. There are so many ways to brighten the day of another person. Be creative and get blessing.
I’m happier than ever before. By taking the time to slow down and appreciate life with all its ups and downs makes us who we are. We can choose to learn by life’s lessons and continue to grow and better ourselves. Remember to be the change you wish to see in the world.
