Letting Go, part 1

Post by Heather Shafer for the Kind Kindred series.

Hello Amazing Souls!

In this month’s guest post series for this awesome blog, we are exploring Letting Go!

In the series we will explore multiple areas and ways where we can let go. First though I wanted to look at what we hold on to and how that can take away from what we want to create in our lives.

We are all holding on to “stuff.” We hold on to Physical and Mental “Stuff” all the time. We hold on to old stories, old wounds, shoulds, expectations, too many emails, too many clothes (that we don’t love), relationships or parts of relationships, the list can go on and on and on.
Letting go can be hard. We feel like we won’t know who we are, we might “need” that item one day, that’s just the way it is. Letting go is a multi-layered process and yes it’s going to get uncomfortable and even emotional at times. But what is even harder (at the moment of being in the midst of it) is holding on to stuff that is just holding us down, holding us back, holding us in.

Hanging onto this “stuff” can show up as all sorts of things: physical clutter, discomfort in our bodies, a constant or frequent feeling of frustration and overwhelm, and so on.

When we let go we create room for mental and physical “stuff” that really nourishes us, that we love to have come into our lives. It starts to open up room for what we keep saying we want. Unknowingly we are “full” from stuff that has once served us but at this point is either taking up space (space fillers) or serving to distract us from what we truly want to create, step into, own, learn, etc.

This week I encourage you to make a list of the “stuff” you want to let go of (big and small). Just dump it all out. Then step away from the list. This is not supposed to be an invitation to beat yourself up or feel bad. It’s simply a way to get some of that “stuff” you are holding onto out of your head! Keep the list handy – you may want to refer to it over the coming weeks.
