Kindness is beautiful

It can be difficult to find value in being kind when terrible things happen in the world. Kindness can seem small or silly or trite. I get it…and I also believe that kindness is most important at times like this. As the world tries to heal from yet another terrible event; as we try to understand and to explain; as we go about our daily lives being forever changed, kindness is still beautiful.

When the world feels like it’s at its most unkind, kindness is most beautiful.

The little things like holding a door, saying thank you, or smiling at a stranger suddenly become more meaningful. As I’ve been out in the world in the past week, I’ve tried to pay more attention to my kindnesses, and I encourage you to do the same.

Being kind won’t stop bad things from happening, but it becomes the common bond that unites us when they do. From the heroes who take in victims to the people in your neighborhood who wave hello as they walk by, kindness brings us together and lets us know we’re not alone.

Join me in putting a little extra kindness into the world this week.
