How to find happiness

Countless books, movies and articles have been written about finding happiness. Clearly it’s no easy task, which is exactly the sentiment I think this quote conveys. It’s not always easy. It’s work. What the quote doesn’t cover, is that the work is worth it.

I learned recently that negative events are 5 times more powerful to our brain than positive ones. That knowledge is incredibly freeing and validating.

Sit with that for a minute. Five to one. Know what that means? It means you’re not alone. It means that choosing happiness requires a deliberate effort…for everyone. It’s not that you just can’t find it.  We all have to work at it. Wowie, wow, wow.

I wrote a few weeks ago about the difference between internal and external happiness, and while some of the external things make us happy, they tend to be temporary. The long-term kind of happiness that tends to be the gold standard, is internal….and it can be hard…but it’s so worth it.

Thanks for being on this journey with me.
