Heartbeat

fragile
pulsing
sound

defining
borderlands
between
here
and
everywhere

the sound
that
reminds me
I’m in a body
for now

a woman
living the paradox
of at once
caged
and
free

tripping over
divided awareness
here?
there?
both?

snared in
dreamwebs

bemused

what is this
skin that keeps
me from the stars?
why did I agree
to this?

heart beats on
mind conjures
memories
of kisses
breezes
scent of
roses

and
I
know

I remember
why I’m
still here

heart beating
