Gratitude, Gumption and Growth

I found out this week that I have been voted as the Best Personal Trainer in South Jersey. I am telling you all this for several reasons; first, to thank you for your support…but second, to encourage you to not give up on your dreams.

I didn’t start living my dream until I was 45. I knew that I wanted to help others in the way that I am doing now. Problem was, I had an established career of 15 years in a profession that I had studied very hard to get licensed for and to maintain those licenses. I actually got certified as a Personal Trainer a full year before I had the nerve to do anything about it. I was afraid of what people would think, and indeed…as I began to “come out” with what I really wanted to do, I was not supported. It was not professional enough, I could not make money doing this, there are too many people doing this already, I don’t look like Jillian Michaels, I am no longer in my 20’s…so on and so forth. I was at the point, however, that I could no longer resist the call. I kept wondering, if not now, when? So I took the plunge.

In March 2012, I began my business, part time, as a hobby.
In March 2013, I resigned from my primary job. Terrified!
In March 2014, voted Best Personal Trainer in South Jersey.

I am grateful that I was at the place where I had to listen to my heart. It took me a while, but that makes it so much sweeter. I am glad that I stuck to my guns about how I wanted to run my business, one-on-one, no big groups, no bootcamps…done with love and support, not yelling. I am grateful for the recognition, which means so much.

I want to remind you that there is a plan for you. Listen to your gut, it doesn’t lie. If you are “stuck” for whatever reason, know there can be a “later”. We don’t have to, and actually can’t, have it all, all at once. If it’s not the right time for you, rest in the knowledge that your time is coming, and plan accordingly. Whatever you do, don’t give up on your dreams because the world needs what you have to offer.

Lynn DeVasto is the owner of SuperGirl Workout. After losing 90 pounds, she made the decision to help woman be their own super-hero and find their own version of “fit and fearless”, while being true and kind to themselves in the process.
~ Important but boring stuff: She holds certifications in personal training, holistic wellness coaching, sports nutrition and barre.
~ Perhaps unimportant, but fun stuff: Wakes up every morning at 4:30 (ugh), lives with her kitty love (Brady), has yet to meet a potato she doesn’t like (especially if mashed).
