For Marisa – turning 50

Years wrapped us tight in families bosses webs of bills-stress-fight

Sickness leached our bones and warped the paths we walk, too narrow

But every time we talk, I’m broken free into your laughter


Note: This poem uses the sijo poetic form. It is actually older than haiku. This Korean poetic form is only three lines long, but a lot is packed into those three lines. Form: 3 lines in length, averaging 14-16 syllables per line for a poem total of 44-46 syllables
