Epithets and Encouragement

yesterday was a series of
unfortunate events, to swipe the
words of an irascible author of
odd and compelling children’s books.

one mishap tumbling into the
next into the next into the next
all to the soundtrack of howling
winds, thunder, and the discordant

epithets of one frustrated woman.
today was a series of fortunate
moments. kind and unexpected
smile moments. life reminding me

that epithets and encouragement
are almost always equidistant.
