Hello Amazing Souls!

The theme this month is creativity – one of my all-time favorite subjects (and one of my Core Values)! You see, I believe truly and completely that we (yes, even you!) are Creative!

To start out I thought we would look at several things:

• The meaning/dictionary definition of Creativity
• Importance of Creativity
• Encouraging you to explore your definition of Creativity

The meaning of Creativity

This is the dictionary definition of Creativity:
The ability to create new ideas or things, the ability to create new ideas or things using your imagination.

So you see we ALL are creative even if we don’t think we are or are actively and consciously pursuing it in different ways. Everyone has new ideas; everyone creates something out of nothing or not much. If you cook, write, photograph, get dressed, interact with people, raise children, problem solve, or any other number of things – you are creating!

Why is Creativity Important?

It’s part of who we are and have always been.

For me it’s a core value of mine. I am not myself without it. I feel disconnected when I mindlessly ignore those creative tugs!

Here is a VERY powerful quote and definitely food for thought from Brene Brown: Unused creativity is not benign. It metastasizes. It turns into grief, rage, judgment, sorrow, shame.
Whoa, Right?

How do you define Creativity?

We all have a different view of what “real” creativity looks and feels like for ourselves. Our definitions are often tied to certain activities or types of people. For example, you may have the mindset that if someone knits, paints (like masterpieces!) etc. that only those select few are creative. I see people downplay their creativity all the time.

So how do you currently define creativity?

How do you want to define creativity?

Based off of the definitions of Creativity, is there one you might put into practice or at least consider exploring?

In the coming weeks we are going to explore various ways of Creating and Self-Expression. I hope you will give yourself the gift of the time, space and courage to do so. XO

I would love for you to share your thoughts on this subject in the comments!
