Create Space – Release and Dream

Hey Beautiful Souls.Last week we talked about ways to reflect on the year coming to a close and vision for the year coming up (at an alarming rate!).

This week we are exploring creating space mentally and physically for dreaming, visioning and creating the life you seek.

Create Space – Mentally:

  • Create a brain-dump list. Everything that is on your mind from seemingly mundane to stuff that may be bothering you. It’s a great way to clear some mental space.
  • If you created a goal list for 2014 and didn’t get it all done then you are in good company. (That is true for SOOO many of us!) Can you look at it and sort of re-frame it? First – take the things you really want (not should) to do and put them on an inspirations list for the New Year. Second – look at the remaining stuff and say to yourself: “I forgive you for not making this happen/a priority. I lovingly release you from any guilt or should for these things.”
  • For those things you really wanted to do but didn’t, can you identify a common “blocker” around them? Like fear of…being seen, being uncomfortable, rejected, etc. Now take that blocker or the blockers and write a goodbye letter to them. Thank the fear for keeping you “safe” and let it know you no longer need it – you are ready to move through and past it. Maybe this is true of a situation as well or in place of. Can you do the same thing for it? As strange as thanking something that has held you back can sound, there is a sort of safety in hanging on to that fear or situation even when it’s not healthy or truly comfortable. It’s often familiar or serves as a sort of protection. So I feel it’s important to acknowledge that and yet call it out so you can reveal and heal.

Create Space – Physically

  • Choose a space that is bugging you or that feels the most manageable. Carve out at least 5 minutes a day to do what I call “Blitzes.” Set a timer for releasing the clutter in that space. Create “away” bags or boxes. Give away, throw away, file/put away.
  • Do you have a space just for you to dream up, an inspiration space (some refer to it as an altar but if that doesn’t feel comfortable to you, make it an inspiration space). Gather images, bits that you love and even put in a candle. This can be created in really tiny spaces.
  • Go through your bookshelves, drawers etc. and pull out 1-2 things that feel like “should” to you. Release them. Your “should” could be a “want” to someone else so if it is, bless someone else and create space for more of what you love!
  • Designate (buy or use one you have) a journal or notebook of some kind to capture your thoughts, soul notes, dreams, and ideas.
You may find this helpful to do before you are really clear on your visions and dreams to create space to allow it to come to you. Or you may find that these steps are really more helpful once you are clearer on what your visions and dreams are so you know what you are creating space for. (Next week we explore a bit more about visioning!)

Give yourself some credit for showing up where you have and allow space for some gentle fierceness when needed!
