Choose Peace

I love to be right.

Not many people I know don’t love it, but is it always that important?

Take a minute and think about a time when you argued for your rightness, but felt badly afterwards. I know I can come up with a few of those situations…

Now, let’s look at at those battles with the gift of hindsight. They say that hindsight is 20/20, and I agree. It’s also useful in the right here and right now. Ask yourself (as I’m asking myself), what feels better: peace or being right? My answer is peace.

Trust me when I tell you, that wasn’t always the case. It’s not always the case today, but I work very hard at being selective with my battles. I know the feeling of regret that comes from having to be right. I know the feeling of pride that comes when I choose to walk away; to avoid that battle; to choose peace.

As a tremendous Maya Angelou fan; in honor of and in tribute to the great woman the world lost, won’t you join me in choosing peace?
