Budapest with Hilde, 1993

This haiku captures a memory of a trip to Hungary I took when I was young, with a beloved great-aunt who was then in her seventies.


arm in arm we strolled

stories of her youth floating

under the streetlamps


Note: Haiku is a Japanese verse form of three unrhymed lines of five, seven and five syllables which often features an image meant to depict the essence of a specific moment in time.
