As a teacher

As a teacher I watch as the kids under my care try to navigate their way through school. You certainly couldn’t pay me to go back and be a student again. I have always tried to give the students a place to soft fall. With the crazy quotes, prayer flags and incense in my classrooms I have always hoped to create a haven for the kids that are not coping. For the ones like me who were different, who struggled with themselves and their self-esteem.

As a parent I have always done the same thing. Graham and I have always given both our kids a safe haven at home, urging them to be themselves. I often hear my son saying he loves to be at home. And my daughter has created a little piece of Zen in her room.

Today I ask you all to Ask them “Are you OK?” Sit with them and listen. Tell them that “this too will pass” and that nothing is ever so bad that they have to think there is nowhere to go.

Today I say to my 2 beautiful kids “I love you,” I love who you are and what you will become. Dad and I are always here for you, you can tell us anything and we can talk through it. You are loved. Always know that we will be there standing right beside you in this life. Nothing, I promise, is ever that bad.

Till next time

Namaste lovelies
