Today we were informed that another young person at a school nearby lost their life to suicide.
I again find myself feeling at a loss as to how to equip my own children with the life skills needed so they won’t feel so lost.
I have composed a letter to them:
Dear Hayley and Jamie,
Today I would like to tell you beyond anything else that you are loved.
When you feel like you are lost, Dad and I are always there for you. Come and talk to us. We will always be there to help you. Dad always says a problem shared is a problem halved.
If you cannot talk to us, then find someone you can talk to – a friend, a neighbor, a family member. Seek out someone who will listen. Never, ever be afraid to say “I am not OK.”
If you feel bullied or someone is making your life difficult, come and talk to us. Know that you will always be safe in your home. We won’t judge. We will always be there to find a solution
Remember that as long as you are happy in life, that is all that matters. Do not put so much pressure on yourself to achieve so that it causes you unhappiness and stress. We are so proud of the people you are. Do your best – that is all that matters.
I never want either of you to feel so lost that you have nowhere to go. Always remember how loved you are and that together we can try to solve any problem you have.
Love always,
MUM
