6 Fabulous Ideas for Valentine’s Day

When love is in the air, everyone can feel it. You can’t miss the displays of red roses in stores, heart-shaped chocolates, red and pink balloons and people walking hand in hand.

Why is Valentine’s Day Special?

This day is unique because it is a global celebration of people expressing love and friendship. People show affection by sending gifts with messages of love.

The Origin of Valentine’s Day

Also known as Saint Valentine’s Day, it is recognized as a significant religious and cultural celebration that originates from a Western Christian feast day which honors Saint Valentinus (Valentine). Legend says that Saint Valentinus restored the eyesight to a blind daughter of a judge; then wrote her a letter signed ‘Your Valentine’ just before his execution.

The day was associated with the English author and poet Geoffrey Chaucer, known as the “Father of English Literature” in the 14th century – when the tradition of courtly love flourished. Anglican communion recognizes Saint Valentine’s Day as an official feast day; however, it is not a public holiday in any country.

Valentine’s Day Flowers

Valentine’s Day is a booming business for florists. Giving flowers is an old custom to send a non-verbal message of love. The ideal flowers for Valentine’s Day are red roses which signify love. Other popular flowers are tulips, lilies, daisies, azaleas, daffodils and violets.

6 Fabulous Ideas For Valentine's Day 2

Most people don’t think beyond flowers, but there are many other things you can do to show that you value your loved one.

Here are six of the best ideas that will melt your loved one’s heart:

  1. Spend a Night at a Museum

Many museums prolong their hours on Valentine’s Day. Taking an art tour for two and sipping champagne with romantic music playing softly in the background can be quite an unforgettable treat.

  1. Book a Hotel

Most hotels get fully booked for Valentine’s Day, so plan ahead. Reserve one of the best suites, get pampered with a massage, add a candle-lit dinner while watching the sunset and enjoy the luxurious feel far away from household chores.

  1. Go Dancing

You and your loved one can enjoy some live romantic music together. Another idea is to take salsa classes prior to Valentine’s Day so you can show off your dance moves on the big day.

  1. Write a Poem

If you are a creative person, write a poem that expresses your love and read it to your partner (maybe while snuggling in front of a fire). If you aren’t a poet, you can buy a blank notebook and fill it with “Reasons Why I Love You.” This will create beautiful memories for your loved one.

  1. Visit the Shopping Mall

Although not everyone loves to go to the mall, you know if your partner would enjoy this.   Go and see how colorful everything is. Some stores even give flowers to their customers on Valentine’s Day. Spoil yourselves in a candy store – try various flavors, then take some home to share together later.

  1. Roller Skating

If you and your partner want an “active” idea – plan a visit to your local skating rink. Find one that is offering a Valentine theme so it can be more romantic.

No one should miss Valentine’s Day celebrations. Make it epic by using some of these ideas or coming up with your own – and don’t forget a card! The whole idea is to make someone feel loved by doing something special and meaningful just for them.
