Calling all Artists

Artists have a calling to find ways, however imperfect, to interpret our world
We are philosophers, bridge builders and weavers

Driven by internal fires lit long ago
The original spark discovered
Then painted on walls to capture our stories

We provide language to the unknowing
Our works are the bumps and dots in Braille

We give shape to ideas that live in our mind’s eye
However rough they show up

We make connections across spectrums
We fill in the gaps
Coloring outside the lines

Art and imagination are the first skills we use to make sense of the world as developing humans
We make pictures and interpret our surroundings in pre-verbal ways

Along the way we forget we have these innate skills of perception
We pretend ourselves into selective amnesia
We don’t remember how we found our worlds magical, colorful or interesting

If we do hold onto this special artistic language
We claim “outsider status”
Identified as the exception instead of the rule

Google and Facebook talk about being disruptors to the status quo
Artists disrupt to make connections between disparate concepts
Not just blow things up like teenage boys who discovered fireworks for the first time

Some art is more obvious than others
It shouts at you

Some art is quiet
It sits with you and whispers in your ear

We are like ephemeral ghosts pushing loose change off the dresser
Seeing if you’ll notice

We are spiders lingering in the corners
Spinning webs and luring good ideas
Once captured we must dissolve and digest them

Think of all the artists walking around the world and
Imagine you are one of them

Felicia is driven by curiosity. She takes things apart and puts them back together: dryers, door handles and ideas. She values directness as well as kindness. In life or salsa class she will be moving in the opposite direction of the crowd (sometimes not on purpose). Her family is nice enough to leave all the drawers open for her to push in so she feels useful. She lives outside of Boston on the North Shore with a large man with a heart of gold, a tween who sings like an angel but can’t remember to wear her own coat home from school and a greyhound named Arnie who enjoys crispy bread. You can follow Felicia on her website, LinkedIn and Facebook.
