Due to the pandemic in 2020, you may suddenly have a lot of free time at home and are unsure how to use it productively. You may just feel too lazy to do anything; but we all want to be productive in life and do the most each day. This is something that does not always happen for a myriad of reasons. You also may have a hard time understanding what productivity is. Here are some tips to help you find the energy to be more productive.
Make a schedule
It is important to make a schedule for yourself, if you are going to an office or even if you are just at home. To be productive, you need to know exactly what you want to do and achieve.
Write your tasks and what you expect to do each day of the upcoming week on a calendar. Your “to-do” list and schedule should be an integrated system to help you plan your day. Prioritize tasks – from what is important to ones that can be done at a later time. Delete tasks that are no longer needed.
You can also set goals for things that you want to achieve for the day, week, month or year so that you have something to strive towards. Once you start following a schedule that shows you what you need to do, you will find that you feel motivated and energized to be more productive.
Organize your workspace
Whether you work in an office or from home, it is helpful to organize your workspace. Clear your station of any unnecessary clutter. Only what you need for the day should be in front of you. You are free to personalize your station, but not in a way that distracts from doing your work.
You cannot be productive if where your workspace is too cluttered for you to keep your mind focused on what you need to do. You will have more energy to be productive when you have a workspace set up to help you with your tasks.
Unplug from the internet before you go to sleep
At the end of a long day, do not spend the night just going through your phone or browsing the internet. When it is time to go to sleep, unplug from the internet and disconnect from your electronics. To be productive, you need to be well-rested. If you get a good night’s sleep you will wake up feeling refreshed and recharged.
Bedtime is not the time to go on social media. It should be the time for you to relax and rest your mind and body. Don’t stay up late at night only to wake up tired and grumpy.
The most common mistake people make when they try to be productive is getting distracted by things around them. Avoid distractions and the temptation to deviate from what you are supposed to be doing. If you are working but you keep on checking your phone or getting notifications – turn off the notifications, your phone’s connection to the internet or turn the phone off completely.
The best way to avoid distractions is to place yourself in a situation where you will not encounter any. You know what you want to do for the day, so avoid things that will distract you from those tasks.
Give yourself time for rest
Being productive does not mean you always have to keep working. Being productive also includes time for rest and personal space. Do not overwork yourself to the point where you are always tired.
Schedule breaks into your workday and do something that you enjoy. Do some of your favorite hobbies, exercise, watch a movie or hang out with your friends and family.
Give your brain and body a break. If you feel sick or weak, take a break from your work. You have to put yourself first, physically and mentally. Just be careful not to use this as an excuse to spend most of your day relaxing. Your work is still top priority.
If you do not feel motivated or inspired to be productive, try these tips. It takes just a few changes in your life to feel the energy to be productive. After suffering through 2020, people are motivated to do better and bigger things now, so join the bandwagon.
