Many years ago I sent out a KOM Love Letter titled, “Hi, my name is Lara, and I don’t believe in New Year’s Resolutions.” Turns out that’s still true and I’m even more clear on why that’s the right choice for me. Maybe it feels true for you, too.
I believe at my core that change has to be something that you’re ready for, not a bandwagon you jump on.
I know without a doubt that lasting change has to be slow and deliberate.
I’ve seen amazing things happen in very small steps.
It doesn’t matter what day you decide to do something.
So, if the energy of a New Year has inspired you to make shifts, that’s awesome and I can’t wait to see you reach all of your goals!
If, on the other hand, you’re feeling like you should do something, or you have to make a resolution because everyone else does, or you’re feeling down on yourself for dropping last year’s resolutions, I invite you to go gently. Join me in entering into 2019 with gentleness, kindness and compassion for myself. Give yourself permission to start anything you want, any time you want, and take it as slowly as you want. Trust that you know what’s best for you, no matter what the TV commercials at this time of year want you to believe. Maybe, just maybe, consider the fact that you’re wonderful and perfect exactly as you are…and if that feels too big, then continue to go gently until you can believe it to be true.
