The world needs to see who you are. I recently saw a brief (Instagram Story) clip of a Glennon Doyle talk, and in the excerpt she told the audience that never before has the world experienced each person. Think about that – it’s true! No other person has ever, or will ever, have your same genetic makeup or your same thoughts/feelings/ideas. No one!
When you think about it like that, it’s a disservice to not be yourself. It’s a disservice to all who know and love you, and to the universe at large, to not let us see you!
Too big of a leap? I get it, and please know that NO ONE feels like this is easy. We all, including (especially?) me, have the days when we don’t want to be seen, don’t want to take a risk, don’t want to speak up. I get it…and there are also the days when the exact opposite is true. Some days you wake up on the courageous, motivated, action-taking side of the bed. As I write this, I’m having that day. After having more of the other kind of days in recent weeks, I’m thrilled and want to share this feeling.
Whatever side of the bed you’re on today, know that there are people who want to see who you are. They want to know the real you, they want to hear what you have to say and they want you to take up space in the world. If today’s not the day that you can believe that, try again tomorrow. I’ll let you in on a little secret: sometimes you build confidence to take the action…and sometimes you take actions that build your confidence. Never forget that both are true.
