The Dalai Lama, at the Vancouver Peace Summit in 2009, offered his opinion that Western women will save the world. Generally speaking, women are more likely to be connected to our intuition and deep inner wisdom. We’re also less invested in the traditional structures of patriarchal society. Western women, again speaking in generalities, have the available time and resources to devote to the awakening that is needed at this time in history.
I personally don’t think that it’s just women, or just Westerners, who will affect the needed changes though.
I believe that it is those of us who are now connecting with the qualities of the Divine Feminine who will help birth humanity into a new level of consciousness – one where kindness, peace, sustainability, creativity and joy will become true priorities.
How will we encourage this powerful shift?
You may find this surprising but it’s by looking deep within our individual souls that we’ll discover the place where we are all connected. By changing our focus and becoming the powerful co-creators that we’re capable of being, we’ll change human consciousness from the inside out.
We sometimes think that personal growth is self-indulgent or a luxury when it’s really quite the opposite. Westerners in particular have become distracted by physical-world luxuries that have become needs in our minds – like designer clothes, the latest gadgets, impressive salaries, a perfect home, the endless quest for youthfulness, keeping up with the 24-hour news cycle, trends in entertainment and which celebrities said what to whom. There’s nothing intrinsically wrong with these things if you enjoy them; but when you neglect your own purpose and passions in favor of the rat race, that’s when you’ve fallen under the spell of the illusion that physical reality is all there is. Devoting time to spiritual practice and following your heart gives you a larger perspective and allows you to foster your compassion and creativity.
As you free your mind from body obsession, perfectionism and self-criticism you’re freeing your spirit and devoting yourself to your inner purpose. By letting go of the victim mindset and the fears you’ve been trained to focus on, you allow vast energies to be released which you can then use for your own creative and positive purposes. Those energies will be brought to bear in your family and community, and instead of the conversation centering on celebrity gossip and political rhetoric, you’ll be inspired to share about the things that are most meaningful to you. You’ll let go of worrying about appearances and dive into the depths of your passions.
You will allow your authentic self to shine through.
As you discover what truly matters deep within your soul, you’ll find more time to share your gifts with the world. You’ll learn to really make a difference while experiencing the joy of following your deepest callings. This will help you be an inspiring role model for the next generation of young women and men, many of whom are already seeking deeper meaning in their lives and careers. It will allow you to participate in the healing of the planet and to even heal your past, the matrilineal line of ancestors, from centuries of oppression and distraction.
You have a responsibility, not to work harder, sacrifice more or deny your desires – but rather to dive deep into your inner wisdom. To discover the treasures there in the depths and bring them back to the surface. To make spiritual connection part of your everyday experience, not just something you visit occasionally. To heal your psyche and thus to connect with a bigger perspective, one that will shift our collective priorities and energies.
Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to save the world – from the inside out. Are you ready?
