I make colorful gemstone jewelry with a sophisticated flair. My pieces range from being bold and bright to simple yet fun. I really wanted to make pieces that had something to say, that people would comment on and be intrigued by. Designated Dryden is a collection formed from my love of making something different and special. It combines influences from my fascination with geology, geometry, asymmetry, aesthetics, color, and re-purposing. It is a combination of new and used pieces to form one-of-a-kind silhouettes. I create my jewelry to make people feel special and happy. I make jewelry to make me feel happy.
String-Ring™ : The Kindness Reminder
The String-Ring™ is a cue to remind yourself, and those who notice it, to be kind to one another. To do a kind act, or even think something kind. Designed to be threaded with the provided colored string, String-Ring reminds you of the particular act of kindness you wish to remember.
Tying a string around your finger as a reminder is an ancient belief, thought to keep an idea from escaping — literally tying the idea to yourself.
I’ve been designing jewelry since I was 14 years old, when I became intrigued with an old paperclip, some handmade paper, embroidery thread, and a pile of leftover beads that I had lying around in a drawer.
Most of my work are made out of cloisonne enamel, which is molten glass fused to metal. Think of them as miniature glass paint-by-numbers, which I create from scratch. The enamel is in a powdered form when I work with it, after mixing with water, and grinding/sifting to the right consistency. I’ll be honest, it’s fairly dangerous, but I love it!
The tiny items, chain, and ribbon attached to each piece are all ‘new, old stock.’ Which means that *virtually* nothing I use has been newly manufactured. Even my enamels are vintage, so every piece is as eco-friendly as molten glass can be.
Live with intention. Walk to the edge. Listen hard. Practice wellness. Play with abandon. Laugh. Choose with no regret. Appreciate your friends. Continue to learn. Do what you love. Live as if this is all there is.
This is not a theoretical book. I wrote it as I live it.
LIVE WITH INTENTION is a beautiful invitation to your own Intentional, purposeful life. Through art, essay, aphorism and experience I share based on the ten elements defining my intentional approach to living.
It is the kind of book that you can read, cover to cover, in a relatively short period of time. And also, it’s designed so that you can open it anywhere and settle for a minute or two on a vitamin shot of inspiration.
If this was the last book I was able to give the world, I would consider it my best gift. (But happily, I know it’s not my last). I poured my finest effort on to every page and I trust that will be evident to my reader.
These words, which I penned nearly twenty years ago… have been a guiding light for me. I hope they will be for you, as well.
Tuckaway Hearts are handmade in vintage quilt ticking and a variety of other fabrics, and are filled with hope, dreams, hugs, kisses…and love. No two are alike, they are imperfectly perfect. Write a special note and tuck it into the Tuckaway Heart. Place it where you want it to be discovered.
Tuckaway Hearts have been found under a child’s pillow, in a backpack, briefcase, lingerie drawer and …well, you decide. We all need and deserve a kind word … a love hug …and encouragement. At Tuckaway Hearts we encourage paying it forward … a ripple will start a wave!
It is our mission to one day have Tuckaway Hearts available to everyone … and to have proceeds from their sale helping as many people as possible. We hope that a Tuckaway finds it’s way into your heart and the hearts of those you love.
The Collective is the idea that we aren’t creators alone. Sohma G. Dawling and her revolving list of creative friends want to share what they create in their own lives with the world: from photography prints to hand drawn art, from vintage inspired jewelry to adorable things to warm your heart. The inventory constantly changes as everything is hand made and many are one of a kind. The artists change as time for creativity permits in the busy pace of modern life.
Sohma G. Dawling is heavily inspired by vintage styles and nature, which contrasts fiercely to her outwardly appearance of brightly colored hair and boyish clothes. She loves to create delicate looking and ornate wearables when not art directing independent films, doing photography, or playing with her adorable puppies in her rural home. Madly in love with design elements of the past and wanting to support the creative endeavours of her and her friends, she started The Collective as a way of putting their creations out there and available to the world.
Vivienne McMaster is a photographer that is head over heels for self-portraiture and the potential it has to shift our self-perceptions.
She offers two online classes that are packed full of insights, videos and vibrant images. Her courses explore redefining how we see our own beauty, taking photos in which we feel seen and adding ourselves into the visual narrative of our lives through photography. You are Your Own Muse, a 6 week e-course, invites us to look both inward and outward as we learn to find our vision as photographers. We also get to know our cameras as we shift our perception of beauty: all through the tool of taking self-portraits. The next session of You are Your Own Muse starts on Valentines Day, the perfect day to celebrate re-creating a loving and kind relationship to that woman you see in the mirror. You can find out more about Vivienne and her courses at her website www.viviennemcmaster.com
Bold Art for Bold Souls
with Tangerine Meg
Life is so damn juicy—bursting with delicious, thrilling, rich moments for us to savour—but sometimes we lose the juice amidst our everyday routines.
Which is why I create bold, vibrant art. Each piece is a reminder (for you, or for your loved ones) of the bold soul within us all, full of joy and beauty and possibility.
I’m Tangerine Meg by the way, delighted to meet you!
If you’re looking for a vivid reminder to live bold, you’ll probably find it amongst my limited edition lino prints, one-of-a-kind watercolours, or Art Cards (I like to think I’m saving the world from insipid illustrations and generic greetings one card at a time!).
Stop by my site to check out the latest luscious additions to the collection, and to download free stuff—right now there’s a special Reading Girl Bookplate image available, which is guaranteed to brighten up any personal library.
And, of course, I’d love to hear from you on my blog (where you’ll also find works-in-progress).
Thank you Bold Souls!
Hi, I’m Amy, I run Crafting Owl. I have been making art ever since I was a little girl, but arts and crafts is still one of my favorite things to do. There is something about crafting that sets my soul free. I can just be myself. My dream is for someone to find the kind of joy in my crafts that I have found when I make them.
Heaps of Gratitude & Love to all of you for sponsoring KOM!
