One of my favorite quotes, which I’ve shared here before, I’m sure, is by Carl Sagan, he’s referring to a picture taken from deep space of the earth:
If you look at it, you see a dot. That’s here. That’s home. That’s us. On it, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever lived, lived out their lives. The aggregate of all our joys & sufferings, thousands of confident religions, ideologies & economic doctrines, every hunter & forager, every hero & coward, every creator & destroyer of civilizations, every king & peasant, every young couple in love, every hopeful child, every mother & father, every inventor & explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every superstar, every supreme leader, every saint & sinner in the history of our species, lived there on a mote of dust, suspended in a sunbeam.
I dig this quote because it shakes my core. It humbles me. It lets me realize that my day-to-day worries are pretty worthless in the grand scheme of things. On the flip side though, it can do something else. Think about the energy that our ENTIRE planet holds. Now break that down a little, to each region, to the groups that are formed in that region & then zero on the energy that each person holds… & then releases. Holds… & then releases. Think about how you release energy. What kind of energy are you freeing into the universe? Think about how your energy connects with someone else, & in turn, how they take that little bit of energy from you with them on their journey. Each action we take is followed by a reaction. This is connection. I’m writing this post hoping to connect with you on some level. I’m hoping that you drive away from here feeling inspired & ready to release some rockin’ energy into your life & then into the universe by way of your connections. This has always been my main goal with Kind Over Matter to pour kind over matter, to create an unstoppable mass of positive energy, kind matter, a nebula of kind matter, if you will. I am just one tiny star but I’ve attracted you to me, I get a kick out of introducing you to other awesome individuals on the same spiritual wavelength & practices we can engage in together in order to make our time here together even better. Let’s try to clump more of us together so we can create a supernova blast of stellar energy into the universe. Every. Day.
Let’s focus on only emitting good & respectable energy this year, okay?
Let’s ROCK this trip around the Sun!
Here are a few tips that may help you along the way:
Adjust your axis. Ask yourself: How do I want to feel this year? Really think about it. Every since I read The Fire Starter Sessions by Danielle LaPorte this is one of the many (many!) sentiments that I took away from the experience: Know how you want to feel & do whatever it takes to feel that way. Doesn’t that just make so much sense? Start by making a list of feelings that you want to thread through each & every one of your days this year. In order to make this goal a little more attainable, ask yourself every morning: How do I want to feel today? Keep those thoughts at the heart of each day by leaving yourself little reminders, in your work area, your planner, your car, the bathroom mirror. My home is peppered with art that makes me feel good, it really does help me remain calm & centered. Another way that I’ve found works is to center yourself in gratitude. Be thankful for & take great pleasure in every single breath that you take. Always be aware of the beauty that surrounds you. Not only does that make you feel awesome but it also keeps you in the present moment. By weaving these feelings into the axis of your life you will smooth out, what sometimes, is a bumpy ride.
Spin, spin, spin. Spin like the mutha f’in’ disco ball that you are! Let the sun’s light drench you. Let it reflect your awesomeness back to the universe. DANCE! Love! Live! What makes you spin? Tick? What gets you off? DO IT! Every day. With style. With grace. In Love. Dress to Kill. Strive for badassery. This is definitely something that I need to work on this year. Being a mama of two & working from home, I so often forget how awesome I truly am, keep in mind that this statement is so far from snotty, it’s just so easy to neglect yourself under these circumstances. Let me remind you (& myself) : You are so worth it. Take pride in your accomplishments. Put a little bounce in your step, make eye contact, confidence is sexy, my friend. By adopting this attitude artfully, you will SHINE. Start handing out the shades baby, they’re gonna need ’em.
Locate your constellation. One of the first steps in finding your place in the the universe is declaring who you are & what you’re about. Don’t skimp here. Don’t cut corners. Lean into your dreams. Dive deep into yourself. Forget about safe. Get dirty. Come out feeling more alive than you ever have. After you discover you, put yourself out there. Be brave. Life will continue to happen whether you take action or not, my advice is to STEER CLEAR OFF the beaten path & catch up with your passion. Be a magnet for the people you want to attract along the way.
Align yourself with the brightest stars. (Otherwise known as your tribe.) We all want to belong. Belonging is a fundamental human need. This is all about connection. It’s about forming a community. If you haven’t found your tribe yet, here’s a little secret: They’re waiting for you. There are so many ways to join forces with people that have the same interests as you. Find these people through Facebook or Twitter, if they have a blog, leave a thoughtful comment or two. Find them offline by going to events that coincide with your with your passions. Sometimes you have to reach out & (gently) pull the members of your tribe toward you, sometimes the alignment will be so completely natural that it will surprise the hell out of you. One by one you will find them. If you’ve already allied yourself with some stellar folk, don’t forget that there are people out there that belong in your tribe that you haven’t met yet. Keep your wormholes open, invite them in with love & acceptance, you were in their place once. Stay humble.
Launch your goods into the universe. What are you dying to give the universe this year? Your art, your site, your advice, your words, whatever it is, build a rocket & just… LAUNCH IT. What’s holding you back? Fear? Nix it. Time? Make it. Martians? Kill them (softly.) Don’t be afraid to ask your tribe for a little help if you need to, they will jump at the chance to be your propellants, I’m sure. Rocket engines work by action & reaction too, make it easy for your tribe to help you.
It’s okay to drop out of orbit once in a while. (or push your seat ejection button.) Feeling overwhelmed, run down, bowled over? Log out, unplug & power down. Let yourself off the hook. It’s okay. The world will be waiting for you to drop back in when you’re ready. Take care of you, first. Be gentle & kind with yourself. This is not a competition. You will not lose points for lovin’ up on yourself. You owe it to you & the universe to be the best you possible & whatever that is, it’s good enough, I promise.
Every day is a new revolution. When times get dark & you know they do sometimes, keep one thing in mind: The sun will come. If you squint hard enough you will see it in the distance, keep your eye on it. It’s a constant. Yours.
Enjoy the ride. Grab life by the steering wheel & driiiive darlin’ – slide into this year’s finish line sideways, leaving a long streak of smoke spiraling behind you. In other words, leave your mark…
Do not let this universe regret you.
I hope this post has been a peaceful rest stop for you! Now fuel up &… Go! Go! Go!
On your side,
